Nelson Monserrate
Founding Engineer
Nelson was the first hire at PX Systems, where he designed and built the first version of the PX CLI.
Prior to PX, Nelson was a Staff Engineer and Infra Team Lead at Parse.ly. He designed and built the platform that let its backend and data engineering teams ship quickly. He used techniques such as Infrastructure-as-Code, deployment automation, continuous monitoring, and efficient use of spot and reserved instances. Nelson managed a $3M-per-year AWS environment that ran at 99.99%+ uptime. At its peak, it had 400+ servers across 3 regions and 9 Availability Zones, moved terabytes a day through Kafka, and stored petabytes of historical data in S3.
Before joining Parse.ly, Nelson was a Senior Systems Engineer and Tech Lead for John Deere's Global Unix/Linux team. He began his career as a Linux systems and network engineer in Havana, Cuba.
Throughout his journey, Nelson has loved automating away toil so engineers can ship fast and sleep well at night. At PX, he gets to build that for every backend team.
